Day 41 – Najran Part 2

And with Part 2 from Najran city from Day 41( If you haven’t seen Part 1 please do first ) I continue with my friend around the city heading the famous Daggers Market which represent a tradition for the people in the south of Saudi Arabia. There I saw dozens of Daggers in different shapes and quality and price which is between 300 SR – 20,000 SR! and in the black markets it could go on to 80,000 SR! And there are still very famous Saudi people who still work their and many reach for them because of their experience.

ومع الجزء الثاني من مدينة نجران لتدوينة اليوم ٤١ ( إذا لم تشاهد الجزء الأول اضغط هنا ) أكمل تجولي مع صديقي في المدينة متجهين إلى سوق الجنابي المشهور في نجران والذي يمثل عادة معروفة ومتوارثة لدى أهل الجنوب في المملكة. هناك شاهدت العشرات من الخناجر والجنابي بأشكالها المتنوعة وبجودتها المختلفة، أسعار الخنجر يتراوح ما بين ٣٠٠ ريال سعودي – ٢٠ ألف ريال سعودي! وفي سوق السوداء من الممكن أن يصل إلى ٨٠ ألف ريال! وما يزال هناك سعوديين معروفين يعملون في محلاتهم والبعض يستعين بهم لخبراتهم في هذا المجال.

Day 41 – Najran part 1

In continuing my project this is part 1 from Day 41 in Najran city located in the South Region in Saudi Arabia which I visited in my last trip for this Street Project. I spent a day & a half in Najran which was a mistake! I should have stayed 5 days at least, but still I got a lot of photos and stories around. In this post my first visit was the sheep market which is located south the city, not outside of it like most of the major cities nowadays, the market was just like the one I visit with my father 20 years ago here in Dammam, of course the people are way different. Here I’ll show you glimpse of the market the people who make their living from it.

اكمالاً لمشروعي هذا هو الجزء الأول من من اليوم ٤١ من مدينة نجران والتي تقع جنوب المملكة بالقرب من حدود الجمهورية اليمنية والتي قمت بزيارتها في رحلتي الأخيرة لتصوير مشروع حياة الشارع السعودي. لقد أمضيت هناك قرابة اليوم والنصف والتي كانت غلطة مني بحيث كنت أحتاج إلى قرابة ٥ أيام! ولكن مع ذلك استطعت الحصول على عدد جيد من الصور والقصص. في هذه التدوينة كانت زيارتي الأولى في المدينة في سوق الغنم المحلي والذي يقع جنوب المدينة وليس خارجها كما هو الحال في أغلب المدن الكبرى في المملكة، السوق يذكرني تماماً كما كنت أتجول مع والدي قبل ٢٠ سنة في سوق الغنم بالدمام سابقاً ولكن الناس هناك مختلفون بالتأكيد، سأعرض عليكم لمحات من هذا السوق ومن العاملين فيه والذين يكسبون رزقهم اليومي منه.

Day 40 – Asir

Hello all, finally I am able to post a new post blog to continue my Street Project and very excited to show you the photos I capture it recently at last ! 3 weeks ago I traveled to Asir Region which is located in the south west of Saudi Arabia, I was aiming really at capturing the streets in Abha city in Asir, but I found myself somehow forced to travel along to capture only for the Old Markets in the Region. Since Asir is a Mountain Environment it’s completely different from any other Region in the Kingdom, the weather and the streets are different which gave me good subject to photograph not to mention the kindness of the people too. In this post I will give you a glimpse of my trip there, so photos are from different places scattered and from about 3 days in time, it will be much like a report showing what I saw that represented the street & people’s life ! please be aware that there is more then 100 photo in this page so give some time to load, enjoy it !

مرحبا بكم جميعاً، أخيراً بإستطاعتي كتابة تدوينة جديدة أكمل بها مشروع حياة الشارع الذي بدأته ومتحمس لكي أعرض لكم ما قمت بإلتقاطه مؤخراً ! قبل ٣ أسابيع قمت بالسفر إلى منطقة عسير والتي تقع جنوب غرب المملكة العربية السعودية، كنت أهدف حقيقة إلى تصوير الحياة فقط في مدينة أبها في عسير ولكن وجدت نفسي مجبراً نوعاً ما إلى التنقل حول المدن المتواجدة حول أبها لإلقتاط صور من الأسواق الشعبية والبيوت الموجودة على الجبال. وبما أن عسير هي منطقة جبلية فهي مختلفة تماماً عن أي منطقة اخرى بالمملكة، الطقس مختلف والشوارع مختلفة والتي أعطتني مواضيع جيدة لتصويرها وإبرازها في تدوينتي ولا أنسى طيبة أهلها أيضاً ! في هذه التدوينة سأعرض لكم لمحة من رحلتي هناك لذلك عرض الصور سيكون مختلفاً قليلاً لأنها ستكون من أماكن عدة ومدن مختلفة وفي أوقات مختلفة حيث إلتقطتها في ٣ أيام مختلفة. ستكون مثل التقرير والذي سيعرض لكم ما رأيته من حياة الشارع وحياة الناس ! الرجاء الانتباه بأن هناك أكثر من ١٠٠ صورة في هذه الصفحة لذى كونوا صبورين ، أتمنى أن تستمتعوا بها !ـ

Day 39 – Al-Hasa

Hello all, finally a new day from my project and this time it’s from AlHasa, Mubarraz from one of the oldest area that this city has. It was a smooth photo walk because I had the chance to scout the area before coming back to take street photos for my project. Anyway I don’t have much to say so enjoy the photos !

مرحبا بكم، يوم جديد لمشروعي أخيراً وهذه المرة من منطقة الأحساء مدينة المبرز من أحد الأحياء القديمة بها. لقد كانت جولة انسيابية اذا صح القول بسبب أنه كانت لدي الفرصة باستكشاف المكان سابقاً قبل أن آتي مجدداً  للتصوير. على كل حال ليس لدي الكثير لقوله غير أمنيتي أن تستمتعوا بالصور والجولة ! Day 38 – Riyadh

Hello all, this post is from the Capital of Saudi Arabia Riyadh ! In this city different culture, different people and the most crowded city in the country ! literally I needed at least half an hour to get from one side to another side. Anyway I’ve met with one of my friend who is interested in street photography and led me to a famous traditional market in the south. I’ve gone there twice because the first time was at the evening and got there a little late before sunset ( The perfect time is before sunset at least 2 hours & half ) so I took only a few photos I will show it first and got to know the place better with my friend’s help, then in the next morning I’ve got up early and gone there by myself where I felt a lot comfortable and had a lot of time to photograph which led to an great collection of photos even a place beside the market too. So I hope you like my walk there !

مرحبا بكم جميعا، هذه التدوينة من عاصمة المملكة العربية السعودية، الرياض ! في هذه المدينة عادات مختلفة وثقافات مغايرة، أشخاص مختلفون وأيضاً لا ننسى أنها تحتوي على الكثافة السكانية الأعلى في الدولة ! حرفياً كنت أحتاج إلى نصف ساعة على الأقل لأنتقل من جهة إلى اخرى من المدينة. على كل حال إلتقيت بأحد الأصدقاء والذي لديه إهتمام في تصوير الشارع وحياة الناس وقد نصحني بالذهاب إلى أحد الأسواق الشعبية الشهيرة في جنوب الرياض ( سوق الزل والثميري ) ذهبت هناك مرتين وذلك بسبب أن اليوم الأول بالمساء وصلت قبل غروب الشمس بساعة تقريباً  ( الوقت المثالي للتصوير في المساء قبل الغروب بساعتين ونصف على الأقل ) لذا إلتقطت صور قليلة جداً وسأعرضها هنا بالطبع وأيضاً كانت فرصة جيدة لأتعرف على السوق وممراته بمساعدة صديقي، وبعد ذلك في الصباح التالي نهضت مبكراً وإتجهت هناك مباشرة لوحدي وشعرت بأريحية كبيرة لمعرفتي بالمكان مسبقاً وهذا ما قادني إلى إلتقاط العديد من الصور الجيدة في هذا السوق وفي حي صغير يجاوره مباشرة. أتمنى أن تروق لكم هذه المجموعة !

Day 37 – Madinah

Hello all, this is the last post for my trip that I took 4 months ago, but not that last for the blog for sure ! Again with Al-Madinah city I’ve had the chance to go to a more active and large area near Al-Haram called Al-Sieh with the help of a photographer friend, we’ve gone their after the noon directly so we can have lots of time to photograph. It was really another different face for Al-Madinah and this area is going to be demolished in the near future because it’s very close from Al-Harm from the west side. This post in an amazing way have 100% b/w photos ( didn’t plane for it, it just went to like this ) and have the most photos from any other post because if the stories and the places their were a lot and worth showing it here. I hope you feel the same thing as I went over and over in looking at these photos !

مرحبا بكم جميعاً، هذه اخر تدوينة من رحلتي التي قمت بها إلى المنطقة الغربية قبل قرابة ٤ أشهر، وبالطبع ليست التدوينة الاخيرة للمدونة ! مرة اخرى في المدينة المنورة حظيت بالفرصة للذهاب لحي أكثر نشاط وحيوية وفي وقت حيوي بالقرب من الحرم الشريف ويدعى حي السيح، ذهبت هناك بمساعدة أحد الزملاء الفوتوغرافيين بعد صلاة العصر مباشرة لكي يتسنى لي التصوير بأريحية وبوقت طويل. هذه التدوينة بشكل مذهل أنتجت صورة أحادية بالكامل ( لم يكن من تخطيط مسبق وكانت ارتجالية فقط أثناء المعالجة والفرز ) وأيضاً تحتوي على أكبر عدد صور في أي تدوينة اخرى بسبب كمية القصص والحياة الموجودة هناك. أتمنى أن تشعروا بما أشعر به حين أرى هذه الصورة مراراً وتكراراً !

Day 36 – Madinah

Hello all, continuing my posts of this long project with the fifth city in my last trip which is the holy city Al-Madinah, which has the Prophet Mohammad Mosque ( peace be upon him ). Sadly I spent only a day here so I woke up early in the morning not knowing where to go really. I was in luck to find an area nearby the hotel  I was staying in and it was called Al-Usbah area. It was morning and there was almost no one outside, but I kept photographing the houses, doors, alleys and everything else that life in my own eyes, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did !

مرحبا بكم جميعاً، استمراراً لتدويناتي الخاصة بهذا المشروع الطويل مع المدينة الخامسة من رحلتي الأخيرة وهي احدى المدن المقدسة ( المدينة المنورة ) والتي بالطبع تحتوي على المسجد النبوي الشريف. للأسف كان لدي يوم واحد فقط هنا لذا استيقظت مبكراً وأنا لا أعلم حقيقة أين أتجه. لقد كنت محظوظاً بأنني لمحت حي متواضعاً يدعى حي العصبة بالقرب من الفندق الذي أسكن فيه لذا لم أضيع الوقت واتجهت له. لقد كان الصباح ولم ألتقي بأي أحد كان خلال جولتي، لذا واصلت تصوير المنازل والأبواب والأزقة وكل شيء آخر يبعث بالحياة من خلال عيناي، أتمنى أن تستمتعوا بها !

Day 35 – Yanbu

Hello all. It’s a new city and it was an adventure to me as I arrived I had no one there to meet so he can show me the city, which is Yanbu, located north of Jeddah, just a 4 hour drive. The fact that I didn’t have any idea where to go just missed up my time when I arrived at noon, luckily the city wasn’t that big and found my self in the center of the city where the markets and the activity are there, then I arrived at the sea side ( forgot to mention that Yanbu is on the coast ) then I saw a directions to the fish market ! thats how I decided to go and begin photographing there, after that I drove around Yanbu port until I saw that there is a historical & abandoned area called AlSo0r just beside the port ! it was just amazing considering one of the local photographer that he said a few days earlier that Yanbu doesn’t have any old areas ! anyway I continued driving and right beside it there was exactly what I need, an old area that still people lives in. Sadly 95% of them are foreign workers that lives there after the saudi families are gone to newer areas. So I hope you enjoy the upcoming photos !

مرحبا بكم، مدينة جديدة وكانت مغامرة بالنسبة لي وذلك بسبب وصولي هناك بدون أي شخص لإستقبالي لكي يكون دليلي في هذه المدينة وهي مدينة ينبع والتي تقع شمال مدينة جدة على بعد ٤ ساعات قيادة تقريبا. في الحقيقة لم يكن لدي أي فكرة عن الموقع الذي يجب علي أن أزوره للتصوير وهذا ما ضيع علي بعض الوقت عند وصولي في وقت الظهر، من حسن الحظ أن ينبع ليست بتلك المدينة الكبيرة لذلك وجدت نفسي فجأة في منتصف المدينة والتي بها الأسواق والنشاطات اليومية المعتادة، وعند وصولي إلى جهة البحر ( نسيت ذكر أن ينبع هي مدينة ساحلية ) رأيت لوحة بها اتجاه لسوق السمك المحلي ! هكذا قررت الذهاب والبدء بالتصوير من هناك، بعد ذلك بدأت بالتجول بالسيارة حول ميناء ينبع حتى تبين لي وجود منطقة تاريخية مهجورة هناك يدعى حي الصور ! لقد كان شيئاً رائعاً اذا ذكرت أن عند حديثي مع أحد المصورين والذي يسكن في ينبع قال لي بعدم وجود حي قديم في ينبع، على كل حال تابعت القيادة حول ذلك الحي حتى وجدت بالتحديد ما أريده، حي قديم ولا يزال به بعض السكان أو الحياة. للأسف الشديد معظمهم من العمالة الأجنبية والذي يسكنون هنا بعد مغادرة العوائل السعودية هذا الحي إلى أحياء جديدة. أتمنى أن تروق لكم الصور القادمة !

Day 34 – Old Jeddah

Hello again, I continue to show you some parts of Old Jeddah as this is part 2 and my 2nd visit which happens to be in the early morning on Friday. ( to view part 1 click here or visit the previous post ) I wanted to come back because I wanted to photograph the buildings even more with less people around. It was a 3 hours walk that wasn’t even enough to cover up all the area. Anyway this time I started my walk from a different location and it was better, saw a lot of building that I didn’t saw in the previous post and run across some people who live nearby. You will notice that most of the photos are in b/w, this is suitable for documentary and street photography which comes from a feedback I’ve for for couple of friends. Enjoy the photos !

مرحبا بكم، أكمل معكم في هذه التدوينة بعض أجزاء جدة التاريخية وهي الجزء الثاني وزيارتي الثاني التي صادفت الصباح الباكر من يوم الجمعة. ( لمشاهدة الجزء الأول اضغط هنا أو اذهب إلى التدوينة السابقة ) أردت العودة مرة اخرى لكي أقوم بتصوير أكثر للمباني مع عدم وجود ازدحام من الناس. بالحقيقة كانت الجولة لمدة ٣ ساعات من المشي والتي لم تكن كافية للتجول بالمنطقة كاملاً! على كل حال بدأت الجولة من مكان مختلف عن المرة الماضية، شاهدت الكثير من المباني التي لم أشاهدها وأيضاً صادفت بعض الأشخاص الذي يعيشون في هذه المنطقة. سوف تلاحظون أن معظم الصور ستكون بالأبيض والأسود لتناسبها أكثر مع تصوير حياة الشارع والتصوير التوثيقي وذلك بعد ملاحظات وصلتني من بعض الأصدقاء. استمتعوا بالصور !

Day 33 – Old Jeddah

Hello all, today’s post is from Jeddah city or should I say Old Jeddah which is considered one of the most important historical area in Saudi Arabia. I’ve visited the public market with two photographer friends to capture the life and the buildings. I’ve gotta say that this is my first time ever visiting Old Jeddah and it was way different from the photos I’ve seen about it. Beside the crowded market which happen to be Thursday by the way, the buildings are just amazing ! they are old like 50 years at least and some of it are 6 floors high ! in the other hand the thing which I don’t see are the ruins of other buildings, some are just demolished from being unstable and others are just collapsed ! many others are closed and abounded. To be honest it was like a 2 hour walk between the market and the area itself  and I felt that I didn’t capture enough photos about it, so thats why I’ve decided then to return in the next day at early morning. To be clear this post is from Thursday evening and it will be like part one mostly it will contain people more then buildings, and in the next post will be from Friday morning which will be mostly about the buildings and the life for those who live there. Enjoy this one for now !

مرحبا بكم جميعاً، تدوينة اليوم ستكون من جدة أو بالأصح جدة القديمة والتي تعتبر أحد المناطق التاريخية المهمة في المملكة العربية السعودية. قمت بزيارة سوق البلد مع اثنين من الأصدقاء المصورين الذي تشرفت بمقابلتهم هناك. علي القول بأن هذه هي الزيارة الأولى لي لجدة البلد والزيارة الأولى لجدة نفسها من ٢٠ سنة، وهي تختلف عن الصور التي رأيتها عنها أقصد جدة البلد. اذا استثنينا زحمة السوق والذي صادف أنه يوم الخميس، المباني هناك مذهلة إلى حد كبير ! فهي قديمة حتى ٥٠ سنة وبعضها يحتوي على ٦ طوابق ! ولكن وبالتحديد الأمور التي لا أراها هناك مباني مهدومة بعضها يتم هدمه لأنها أصبحت غير مستقرة واخرى تهالكت وهدمت من ذاتها ! وأيضاً هناك الكثير من المباني المغلقة بإحكام ومهجورة. في الحقيقة كانت جولة ساعتين مشي بين السوق والمنطقة نفسها ولكني شعرت أنني غير راضي بالوقت والصور التي إلتقطتها وأردت العودة مرة اخرى، لذلك عدت من جديد في الصباح الباكر في اليوم التالي. لأكون واضحاً أكثر هذه التدوينة ستكون من يوم الخميس بالمساء وستحتوي على صور للأشخاص أكثر من المباني، أما التدوينة القادمة ستكون في يوم الجمعة صباحاً وستكون عن المباني وبعض الأشخاص الذي يعيشون هناك. استمتعوا بهذه التدوينة !
